When I first came to live in Hastings from Tobago I was in a continuous state of rapture at the amazing views of intersecting medieval rooftops from steep hillsides with tantalizing glimpses of the sea. Particularly enchanting is the glimpse of sea above the rooftops as you come down Exmouth Place from West Hill. There are several beautiful routes down to Old Town from West Hill but this is my favourite. I've sketched it many times but only recently did this little painting which captures the delight I feel, walking down to Old Town on a 'blue sky' afternoon in early summer.
