Leigh Dyer's sculpture of a boat on Hastings beach is exquisitely, breathtakingly beautiful. In wintertime the sun sets over the sea; and so one evening when I was down on the beach and the sun was setting in a gorgeous sky – I knew I had to capture this scene in a painting.
I love the way the prow of the boat arches up sensuously to the darkening sky. This is a very blissful painting. All the alchemical elements are converging into that bliss. Earth, water, fire (the sun), air, space and metal.
