Description
This scene of a fox trotting out on a cold frosty night was prompted by an old song which is often sung on folk nights at my favourite Hastings pub, The Stag.
Reynard the fox is off a- hunting by the light of the full moon. He has a wife and cubs to feed back in their den. Whenever I hear the song I easily become the fox and can feel the adrenalin flow. I feel the cold, soft crunch of frost under my paws as I trot through the leaves. My keen night-vision and the full moon light up the countryside and the air is filled with the scent of endless possibilities – both dangerous and rewarding.
My favourite line in the song comes after the farmer sounds his hunting horn having discovered that his prize goose has gone. The fox taunts; “Play on says Reynard, play your music still, for I'll be away to my den-o!”
